One week after Coon Rapids senior receiver Alex Boxwell set a new school receiving yards record (212), he didn’t catch a pass against Anoka (1-5) in a 13-10 win that spoiled the Tornadoes Homecoming game at Goodrich Field Oct. 4.
Offensive linemen don’t get the flashy statistics like touchdowns, yards gained, receptions, completed passes or tackles. Instead, they measure success by wins and losses and by sheer feeling about the opponent and the will the keep going, play after play.
Anoka (1-4) couldn’t solve undefeated Maple Grove (5-0) as Crimson running back Clark Wieneke continued to light up the field, this time for 166 yards on 24 carries but without a touchdown, in a 24-7 Anoka loss Sept. 27.
At the end of 48 minutes, Anoka (1-0) walked away from Park Center (0-1) with a 44-13 Northwest Suburban Conference win. It took Anoka more than a quarter to figure things out as the Pirates led 7-0 after the first 12 minutes.
