Last spring Moe Strong and Ky’eric Baynes represented Anoka well in the long and triple jumps, each earning all-state finishes.
Anoka boys and girls track teams swept the team standings at the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets True Team Invitational April 21.
The boys edged a stout Stillwater group by one point (866-865) to win the eight-team competition that awards points for all finishers, instead of just the top finishers.
Hurdles standout CJ Janu, a Spring Lake Park student who will run with the University of Iowa in the fall, won the state 110-meter high hurdles with a finals time of 14.37 seconds, beating longtime rival and friend Ben Ojika of Irondale and Cody Walton of Forest Lake in the Class AA State Track and Field meet at Hamline University June 8.
Four area schools will be represented at the Class AA State Track and Field Meet after successful performances at the Section 5AA meet held on the same track as the state meet.
The season’s first big boys’ and girls’ track meet of the season went off without any signs of a snowflake or rain drop on the track at the Hamline Elite Meet in St. Paul April 26.
