Blaine junior Alex Williams was in line to set a new state record in the 100-meter hurdles after a prelim time of 14.22. She beat the previous record of 14.32, set by Richfield standout Jessica January in 2012. A stumble on the wet track at Hamline University didn’t help Williams finish strong, but she settled for an eighth place finish in 17.61 seconds during Saturday’s Class AA finals.
Down 13-0 less than three minutes into the Class 5A state quarterfinal, Andover (7-4) looked to be headed in the wrong direction against Chaska (11-0) in a blustery Kuhlman Stadium in Edina Nov. 9.

Andover (10-19) continued to knock off higher-seeded teams as No. 3 seed Forest Lake fell to the fourth-seeded Huskies 41-37 to win the Section 7AAAA title March 15 at North Branch High School.
This season’s basketball Cinderella Story might be reserved for the No. 4 seeded Andover boys’ basketball team which knocked off top-seed St. Francis 76-58 in the Section 7AAAA semifinals March 11.
