Sorry, I can’t muster up the kind of adulation Marge Miller suggests for the Catholic church. It’s a fallacy to conclude that if they hadn’t started schools or hospitals no one else would have.

Today nearly 2.5 million commuters drive across more than 1,000 deficient bridges every day. The images from the fatal Interstate 35W bridge collapse are still vivid in our memories while more recent examples like Duluth’s I-35 bridge column that collapsed, closing a major artery for the region and our state, prove that we can’t wait until collapse, fatality or closures force us to deal with the problem. We need a comprehensive solution that will address the problems today and avoid catastrophe in the future.

For the past 10 years I have been driving to the VA hospital in St. Cloud, about five times a year. I always wondered why there is always an idle train south of Big Lake and north of Becker.

As a parent in the Anoka Hennepin School District I can tell you bullying is still a problem in our state and a big one in our district specifically. Just look at the 2013 Anoka Hennepin Anti Bullying Student Survey results conducted just this past December by our district. The numbers are heartbreaking. They surveyed 4,752 students and 1,568 reported being bullied in the past month; 2,946 students admit to seeing someone bully someone else with 760 of them saying they’ve seen it regularly or every day.

I agree with Anoka Mayor Phil Rice that the price of $725,000 was too expensive to renovate the entrances at Green Haven. Why spend that much money when our streets need reconstruction?

We are extremely disturbed by the manipulative and exploitative efforts of Mr. Rebek to coerce a meeting between us and his son. In his initial invitation in the ABC Newspapers and subsequent public pillorying of us for choosing not to accept an invitation that we see as exploitative of his son, he clearly demonstrates the kind of presumptuousness all too common among those who hold “progressive” views on the nature and morality of homosexuality.

This letter is to alert readers to the dangers of House File 826 – a deceptive legislative bill called the “Safe and Supportive Minnesota Schools Act.” This bill is neither safe nor supportive. It passed the Minnesota House last session and is being taken up again this session in 2014.
