Gene Hodel’s letter (No legalization of Medical Marijuana, Feb 14) suggests that the liberal left is causing a deterioration of core values, with respect to recreational drug use. I hope our differences will disappear with a broader understanding of the issue.

Earlier this month, we learned that Minnesota is projected to have about a billion dollar budget surplus. In other words, Minnesota is projected to collect about $1 billion more in taxes than planned under the budget that began July 1.

Recently, California, Colorado and Washington have begun to legalize marijuana. If marijuana becomes legalized for recreational use, it can benefit the economy and free up law enforcement for more significant criminal activity.

Even though I am no longer a student at Anoka High School, this issue still concerns me. Everyday after school last year it would take me forever to get home when I lived five minutes away from school. The traffic was always horrible, and I put blame to the illegal turn on Bunker that is right outside the school.
