Andover and Anoka boys hockey programs were well represented in the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association post-season awards.
After graduating 13 players last season, Andover boys’ hockey had a few openings in its lineup. One game into the season, those varsity newcomers seem to have things figured out after a 7-3 win at Hopkins Nov. 26.
Andover junior Tyler Tomberlin scored twice on the power play in the second period while junior goalie Chase Perry came up with some huge saves down the stretch as No. 19 ranked Andover skated off the ice with a 2-1 win at No. 9 Eden Prairie, Dec. 15.
Andover, Blaine, Spring Lake Park, Anoka, St. Francis and Legacy Christian each have a very real chance of playing well past the regular season finale.
On paper Andover wasn’t suppose to stand a chance against top-ranked and No. 1 seed Duluth East.
