On paper it looked like Anoka was headed to its sixth loss of the season, this time at the hands of an Elk River squad coming off a 5-0 start before a 35-7 loss to Totino-Grace one week earlier.
The Bengals wrestled to very lofty results with both state qualifiers placing among the best in the state. Sophomore Malik Stewart lost his section final rematch in the 120-pound state championship to St. Michael-Albertville’s Michael McKee.

Anoka came away with a 10th-place finish in the team standings highlighted by four place winners at the Minnesota Christmas Tournament in Rochester Dec. 20-21.
Coon Rapids senior heavyweight Michael Burckhardt came up short of a state Class AAA title in the finals, Andover junior Corey Parsons won his third place match at 170-pounds and Anoka’s Brandon Krone won his fifth place match at 152-pounds to highlight ABC-Newspapers-area wrestlers at the Class AAA state wrestling tournament at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul March 1-2.
