Anoka senior Max Savini couldn’t write a much better finish to his prep golf days after tying for second place in the Class AAA state golf tournament played at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids June 10-11.
Spring Lake Park
As part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s plan to resurface a 4-mile stretch of Highway 65 in Fridley and Spring Lake Park this summer and fall, intersections at Mississippi Street and Osborne Road will close next week.
Blaine junior Alex Williams was in line to set a new state record in the 100-meter hurdles after a prelim time of 14.22. She beat the previous record of 14.32, set by Richfield standout Jessica January in 2012. A stumble on the wet track at Hamline University didn’t help Williams finish strong, but she settled for an eighth place finish in 17.61 seconds during Saturday’s Class AA finals.
The Arc Greater Twin Cities has honored Nemeh Sarraj of Spring Lake Park with its “Changing Attitudes” Changemaker Award. The award was presented at The Arc’s Annual Meeting and Volunteer Celebration on May 3 at Golden Valley Golf & Country Club.
Blaine was runner-up to Mounds View for the Section 5AA team titles with the girls 81 points behind Mounds View. The Mustang boys were 47 points clear of Blaine, which edged St. Michael-Albertville by one point.
