Anoka girls and Andover boys won their respective team titles and will represent the section the Class AAA state true team meet at Stillwater High School May 17. Field events start at 4 p.m. with running events to follow at 5 p.m.

UW-Stevens Point senior pitcher Travis Elwood (Anoka) was named WIAC Athlete of the Week for pitchers after a pair of appearances to help the Yellowjackets go 3-1 and 12-7 overall this spring. He pitched one inning, giving up one run on one hit in an 8-6 loss to UW-Stout April 23. He followed that with an eight-inning performance Sunday in an 8-3 win over the Pointers. He gave up three runs on six hits. For the season he is 3-1 with a 2.32 earned run average with 33 strikeouts and eight walks in 31 innings of work

Anyone driving on University Avenue near 111th Avenue Monday evening, Jan. 28 saw fire trucks parked by three dilapidated Blaine homes. Flames and smoke were not visible from the outside. The fire truck lights were not even flashing.

After posting 25 runs against Centennial April 21, Anoka’s bats generated 19 runs the next two days, splitting a win and loss. Andover (3-2) scored a pair of runs in the top half of the sixth inning and Anoka (2-2) matched that total in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t plate one more run in the Northwest Suburban Conference loss April 22.
