January was a very good month for the Andover boys’ hockey program. The team entered the second week of February on a nine-game winning streak following back-to-back losses to Forest Lake and Blaine to open the new year.
After graduating 13 players last season, Andover boys’ hockey had a few openings in its lineup. One game into the season, those varsity newcomers seem to have things figured out after a 7-3 win at Hopkins Nov. 26.
It looks like Blaine should challenge for another conference title and perhaps a section title, returning several of its key contributors from last season. Spring Lake Park moved sections and will not have to face St. Thomas Academy or the other Class A powers that made up the section bracket each year.
Andover junior Tyler Tomberlin scored twice on the power play in the second period while junior goalie Chase Perry came up with some huge saves down the stretch as No. 19 ranked Andover skated off the ice with a 2-1 win at No. 9 Eden Prairie, Dec. 15.
