Mayors Trail Ride postponed

Everything was set for the third annual Mayors Trail Ride Jan. 21. Except the snow.

More than a 150 riders enjoyed the Mayors Snowmobile Trail ride last year, but they will have to wait until Feb. 11. Lack of snow and ice postponed this year’s event, which was planned for Jan. 21.

With the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature, the event has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 11, according to Pete Turok, Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce president.

Last year, the event drew 156 riders who followed the Rum River from the Anoka County Fairgrounds north to St. Francis, with stops at several businesses in Anoka, Andover, Ramsey and St. Francis.

“We are hoping for snow and that it will be really cold” before the Feb. 11 date, Turok said.

If not, it may become a golf tournament or take a hiatus for the year, he said.

The trail ride is a fund-raiser for groups in Andover, Anoka, Nowthen, Oak Grove, Ramsey and St. Francis. The mayor of each community announces his chosen group at the end of the trail ride.

Although this year’s trail ride has been postponed, the associated Blue Smoke Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap will go on as planned at 11 a.m. Jan. 21 at the fairgrounds.
