The Davenport Street accesses to the National Sports Center property will be closed and all traffic must use the 105th Avenue accesses while a new elementary school is being constructed.

The Davenport Street accesses will temporarily close and the western end of the National Sports Center parking lot will not be available for parking during construction of the new elementary school for the Spring Lake Park School District. The accesses and parking will come back when the new school opens. File photo

The National Sports Center announced that the changes will come the week of May 22. In addition, the west end of the main parking lot will be closed during construction.

The Spring Lake Park School District is constructing a new preK through fourth-grade school that is expected to serve over 600 students. The building will be just north of the Velodrome on the southeast corner of 105th Avenue and Davenport Street.

The Davenport Street accesses will re-open when the construction work is done, although one of the accesses will be for buses only.

New parking spaces will be constructed but there will be a net loss of 225 spaces on the National Sports Center campus when the school is complete. It is slated to open at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.

There are two main access points from Davenport Street into the National Sports Center that are being closed during construction. Another access point adjacent to field U3 with direct access to Parking Lot A by the Residence Hall will also be closed.

Traffic will need to use 105th Avenue accesses into the campus.

National Sports Center spokesperson Barclay Kruse said some traffic access points will be reopened on a temporary basis during the Schwan’s USA Cup from July 14-22. This is the NSC’s largest annual event.
