Kathryn Kueppers, Miss Coon Rapids Outstanding Teen, was named second runner-up Saturday at the Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Pageant in Eden Prairie.
Kueppers was named Miss Coon Rapids Outstanding Teen at the annual Miss Coon Rapids Scholarship Pageant in November 2012.
Corrina Swiggum from Prior Lake was crowned Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen and will compete at the national pageant, while Alyssa Mitzel was named first runner-up.
Besides placing second runner-up, Kueppers was also the People’s Choice award winner and she was the co-recipient of the Teens In Action award for the service work she has done with her platform, “Happiness is a Gift.” She was awarded scholarships for her college education.
Kueppers is a freshman at St. Agnes High School where she is involved in student council, cheerleading, concert chorale, spring musical and science fair and well as being on the honor roll.
She lists her interests as baking, reading, biking, jet skiing and listening to music.
Kueppers also designs and makes earrings, necklaces and bracelets, which she sells at craft shows and events to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.
Her goal is to earn a college degree in music performance and become a freelance musician.
The outstanding teen pageant is for young women between the ages of 13 and 17 and includes five areas of competition – interview, fitness, talent, on-stage question and evening gown.
According to Kueppers, participants in the outstanding teen program are asked to promote a service platform, volunteer in the community and show scholastic achievement.
Her talent is singing and as part of her platform, “The Gift of Happiness,” she has also launched a “Happiness Podcast,” which talks more about her platform.
Kueppers lives in St. Paul with her mother and father – her mother is a former Miss Minnesota – and two older brothers at college.
