Depot Pond chosen among suggestions for name of Andover pond

The pond by Target in Andover Station now has a name, Depot Pond. The Andover Economic Development Authority chose the name, but has yet to finalize how it will post the new name. Photo by Eric Hagen

As a tip of the cap to the community’s history, the pond next to Target in Andover has been named Depot Pond.

The first train passed through Andover on the Fourth of July in 1899 along new tracks and by a new station near what is today Andover Boulevard. The community was called Grow Township at the time, but a Great Northern Railway executive chose to name it the Andover station for an unknown reason, according to the city’s website.
