NSC plans to revamp 10 fields at the National Sports Center, pictured here, into lighted turf that is scheduled to be funded by a $12.5 Million tax abetment bond.

The Blaine City Council, during its April 15 meeting, approved a plan to provide $12.5 million in property tax abatements to fund the construction of new turf fields at the National Sports Center; in return for approving the funding, the owners of NSC will lease 16 acres of land for development to create a central Blaine Business District.

Six Blaine City Council members and the mayor voted in support of several resolutions related to the tax abatement and a proposed bond sale project while Council Member Lori Saroya voted no on all the related resolutions.
